How to get from Verona to Lake Garda and back

If you are in Verona and have a couple of free days, you should definitely carve out at least 1 of them on Lake Garda - one of the most picturesque corners of northern Italy. The distance from Verona to the lake is only about 25 km, and you will learn how to get there from the city from this article.

Garda Lake is of great interest to travelers, so the transport connection with Verona is excellent here: trains, buses and even a city taxi are at your service.

The only thing to remember is that the lake stretches for several tens of kilometers, so the road can take longer to separate towns on the coast and cost a little more.

But in more detail we will dwell on these nuances below, and we wrote about the most interesting places on Lake Garda in a separate article. In the meantime, let's start with the trains.

The distance from Verona to Lake Garda is about 25 km

Trains from Verona to Lake Garda

Trains to Garda run from the Porta Nuova city railway station. They depart approximately every 40-50 minutes (or more often, depending on the time of day). The earliest at almost 6 am, the last at around 10 pm.

There are both ordinary electric trains (Regionale), and more comfortable and faster trains (Eurocity and Frecciasrossa). At the same time, travel time at such a short distance does not differ significantly, but the ticket price is still how.

For example, to the nearest Peschiera del Garda to Verona by train, you will get for 3.5 euros, and you will have to pay about 15 for a fast train.

To get to one of the most visited towns on the lake - Sirmione, you need to get to the station Desenzano Del Garda-Sirmione (about 30 minutes and 4.45 euros by train), and there change to a bus or taxi.

The current schedule and fare can always be checked on the Omio.ru website. It is good because it shows the schedule of not only the largest railway operator in Italy, but also smaller ones, which means more choice.

Trains from Verona to Garda leave every 40-50 minutes

In addition, it is much easier to purchase tickets online at Omio, and if their cost is more than 40 Euros, then they will also get a pleasant discount that railway operators themselves do not give.

More details about this BlogoItaliano wrote in a separate article How to get a 10 Euro discount on trains in Italy in 5 minutes.

However, with the purchase of tickets online in the case of a trip from Verona to Lake Garda, you don’t need to bother, because there are many trains on the route, and they often go.

Most importantly, remember that if your ticket does not indicate the time of departure and the seat number on the train, then it must be composted at the station before boarding the car.

With all the advantages of the train, this option is more suitable for those who are going to visit the southern coast of the lake, since the railway was laid near it only on one side.

Buses Verona - Lake Garda

A more universal way to get from Verona to Garda is by bus. If you want to explore the east coast, go to Piazza Bra, there is a bus station.

Routes Nos. 163, 164 and 185 follow to Bardolino. The journey takes about 40 minutes, and the ticket will cost about 3 euros. In summer, bus service is open from 6am to 11pm. A detailed schedule is available on the ATV carrier website.

You can continue your journey further by taking the same flights to the terminal station in the city of Garda, and transfer there by bus to Malcesine (No. 483 and 484) or to Riva del Garda (No. 484).

You will have to get to the resort towns of the lake with transfers

Resorts in the western part of the lake will also have to get with transfers.

First you need to get to Desenzano, and then take the LN027 bus, which runs along the entire coast with the final stop in Riva del Garda.

Travel time to the most popular places: Salo - 30 min, Limone del Garda - 1.5 hours, Riva del Garda - 1 h 50 min.

The Desenzano bus station is located next to the railway station. Only a few flights depart daily, so be sure to check the timetable before your trip. You can find it on the website of the company Arriva SIA.

Cars and taxis

The fastest way to get to any point on Lake Garda is, of course, by car. You can rent it directly in Verona or take a taxi. Find your nearest rental office or call a car will certainly help you at the hotel reception.

However, it is much more convenient to do it yourself using online services, especially if you plan to rent a car.

Lake Garda stretches for several tens of kilometers

In the holiday season, demand is growing exponentially, as are prices (in summer at least 30 euros per day), so it’s best to take care of this in advance and book a car a couple of months before the trip.

Taxis can also be ordered via the Internet without any problems. So you definitely do not have to guess how much the trip will cost - the cost is calculated immediately and after registration of the application remains unchanged. For tariffs and detailed conditions, see this page.
